Warm Weather Peaks

temperatures from weatherbonk
In our year in review we forgot to mention that, in addition to being the sixth warmest year on record, last year was also the sixth wettest. Nearly sixty inches of precipitation fell on Central Park in 2006. That's nowhere near the rainiest year on record –80 inches in 1983, but about ten inches greater than average. By comparison, "rainy" Seattle only averages around 36 inches of precipitation a year.

Today's precipitation will feature a mix of rain and occasional rain showers. Periods of fog will also be present. The rain and fog will last through tomorrow morning. High temperatures today will flirt with the record of 64 degrees. Gothamist hasn't seen the Las Vegas odds, but it is a good bet we will easily break tomorrow's record high of 63. The southwesterly flow of air means inland New Jersey should see temperatures in the lower 70s.

Cooler weather and showers arrive Sunday afternoon. By cooler weather we mean temperatures will be only 20 degrees above normal. Monday will be cooler still as an Arctic air mass skirts just to our north. If the Arctic air flows a bit further south than currently predicted Wednesday could be chilly. According to AccuWeather, though, the Wednesday to watch out for is the Wednesday after next. Their crystal ball is saying cold air returns for real on the 17th. Put whatever faith you want in a twelve-day forecast.

It's a lie, the weather services are clearly controlled by leftist anti american fear mongers who hate America and our freedom. This is ploy by communist hippy islamic fascist drug dealing homosexual pedophile atheist pornographers to take away our Humvees, propane BBQs, transfats, guns and cigarettes. Screw the polar bears anyway, we don't need them and they don't vote Republican.

Gothamist should get an environmental feature for each of its cities, along the lines of what they do at treehugger.com but more focused on each place. I think a lot of people would like to have more of that information.
