Something We Didn't Know About Norman Mailer

2007_01_mailermonroe.jpg

Reader Joseph sent us this screenshot of a Barnes & Noble mailer promoting an upcoming reading from Norman Mailer. It looks like his biography of Marilyn Monroe apparently elevated him to husband-of-Marilyn status! Norman Mailer, Arthur Miller, it's all the same! Or maybe it's a way to drum up more interest in the event.

Back in 1973, Mailer's Marilyn book landed him on the cover of Time with Marilyn. Mailer says in the article, "I come from Brooklyn, and she had the basic stuff out of which Brooklyn dream girls are made. [Besides] I felt some sort of existential similarities with Marilyn Monroe."

The Time cover story from 1973 is worth a read.

Here's something I didn't know about Norman Mailer: the fact that he's still alive.

Norman kicks ass.

Saw him at B&N in '04. It's worth a stop-by, even if he wasn't married to Marilyn Monroe.
