About the babysitter: Wow, just wow. Yeah, so "kids move fast" -- he had enough time to climb out the window, fall over the side and dangle for several minutes, didn't he? How does her complete ignorance of these goings-on - coupled with the fact thtat there were apparenlty NO safety bars on the window - not constitute child endangerment? Any parent who continues to leave their kids with her is nuts, if you ask me...

I'm glad there are more acts of heroism and that the media is covering it. And while it would be nice that these latest heroes get some kind of reward, it shouldn't be expected. And this following comment is not to downplay this latest news, but I'm afraid there will be a faked act of heroism in the intervening weeks as someone's attempt to get rewards and media attention. Cynical, yes, but that's my prediction.

All I can think of is the old joke (one that's better as a visual joke) about an NFL player who heroically catches an infant thrown from a burning building. People on the street erupt in such thunderous applause that for a moment the player thinks he's just scored the game-winning touchdown in the Super Bowl. He then spikes the "ball."

Not sure who to blame more on this one. Who hires a babysitter that smokes? Why was the baby given access to the fire escape? Wouldn't the babysitter go out on the fire escape to smoke? How old is this "baby", exactly, if it knew enough/was able to hold onto the fire escape. I don't think anyone that weighs 45lbs can or should be called a baby, unless its an elephant. Give them a pat on the back. That's all. If anyone wants to award them...let it be the parents.
