ART: John Finneran’s Bad Nights, Vandals is at Rivington Arms for the rest of the week. The quirky art displays faces in unlikely places: a rearranged face on a brick wall in one piece and a giddy star in another. - Stephanie Nikolopoulos
Closing January 6 // Rivington Arms [4 East 2nd St] // Free
READING: If organic beverages, zine-heads and small press enthusiasts are your thing, then get over to Cup and Pen (a twice-monthly reading series in the back room of Think Coffee). Tonight Charles Casillo "reveals his research after many years exploring strange encounters in various Manhattan bars, unusually talented individuals, eccentrics, sex, tragic figures, antidotes to insomnia, insecurity, and loneliness in selections from his book Boys, Lost & Found." More details here.
8pm // Think Coffee [248 Mercer St] // Free
THEATER: With a slew of new plays beginning previews later in the week, tonight’s a good night to check out some of the improv over at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. Film Noir: Improv in Black & White poses a haunting and perhaps hilarious question: “What would happen if a bunch of rag tag 1950's studio lot actors decided to form an improv group?” They’re on a double bill with B-Roll: Fact or Fiction, which is an improvised documentary done in the style of Waiting for Guffman, using an idea from the audience as a springboard. - John Del Signore
9:30pm // UCB Theatre [307 W. 26th St.]// Tickets cost $5
MUSIC: It's "Folk Open Sing" at the Ethical Culture Society in Park Slope. Bring that guitar you never play, that drum from your hippie days or whatever random instrument you may have laying around the apartment. Do pots and pans count?
6:30 to 10pm // Ethical Culture Society [53 Prospect Park West, Park Slope] // Free
