James Brown Viewing at the Apollo

Yesterday was James Brown's last time on stage at the Apollo. His 24-karat gold-plated coffin was carried inside after traveling in a horse drawn carriage. Brown's coffin traveled through Wednesday night to get to Harlem by Thursday morning. His old chauffeur made the drive with Al Sharpton, who had a close relationship to Brown. Sharpton, Brown's daughters and his current wife (who may not be legally married to Brown), Tomi Rae Hynie, were all in attendance. ET reports that "Oscar-winning actress Rachel Weisz brought her baby to the viewing".

People crowded around the famous theater and waited to get inside and pay their respects by walking on the stage and viewing him. While it is nice that people got to have one last glimpse of the Godfather of Soul, it's also a little creepy. Here are some photos from the day. Did anyone go?

It's possible his fans will have a place to go and pay their respects in the future, too, as Brown's agent Frank Copsidas told The Post, "He said his house could be another Graceland. He said 'Elvis did it, why can't I?'"

The gloves on his hands are what make it especially creepy. But it is nice there was this opportunity for the public to see Brown one last time.

And Rachel Weisz is pretty cool.

did the rev lose weight?

I went at about 11:30am and waited online for about 3 and a half hours. They were letting people in about 20 at a time.

man, couldn't you give us a warning about this pic? I don't like to see dead folks before my morning coffee.

Why are people obsessed with seeing preserved dead corpses especially dead celebrity corpeses?

RIP JB.
No one's obsessed, they didn't force anyone to see him.
I suppose your dead grandmother or grandfather looked better?

Wow, that really doesn't look like Brown in the casket in that first photo. Either it's just a bad job of enbalming, a bad photo angle, or he really lost weight towards the end.

I suppose your dead grandmother or grandfather looked better?

Cremation. No embalming. No coffin expense. No relative saying, "Wow. They did a really nice job." Better for the environment.

Right on! Right on, hit me

RIP Godfather

How many of us saw him asleep? I will say, his hair looks different.
And, how can you hear your relative saying things when you're dead?

Seeing a wife beater, two time convicted criminal and drug addict laying there makes me think one thing, good riddance!

I bet if he was cremated and you snort his ashes, you’d get a pretty good high.

To #5: "dead corpse" is what they call a tautology. "Dead celebrity corpse" is what they JB himself would call "too much!"

Showed up at 3:30 pm. Six hours. Four blocks. First group of people to be turned away.

Only those who have lived the life, know what James Brown meant to the world and all the millions who loved him. RIP Godfather

BTW #11 IM NOT CONDONING BUT IM NOT BASHING EITHER!
I MEAN LETS SSEE HOW MANY POINTS YOU GET FOR BACKBITTING THE DECEASED!

I gotta admit that I am a little perturb that his old chauffeur had to make the drive from SC to NY...I mean come on...really there are far too many folks with private jets and air transport on standby at the drop of dime for this to have occured. While I understand the symbolism of friendship...I just really think that situation could have been handled better. I gotta agree with #16...he endured many hurdles in his life, as we all have...we just saw his play out in the media. I salute Mr. James Brown....I applaud his talent, and will forever be thankful for the opportunity to always Say It Loud.

As an active civil rights person since 1944 I can not honestly say anything good about a man who stold from from cars and beat his wife with a pipe and shot at her car as to me he was just another criminal who made a big name for himself like Jessie James or Jim Jones and I have no respect for any man that would harm a woman anyway. As the devil finally got his due and the wrath of God answered to James Brown. Growing up poor is no excuse of what he done as a lot of people grow up poor and don't beat women.

THE man. JB is do mad respect. Say It Loud.

Soaring Eagle, how self centered do you have to be, to be so judgemental over someone elses sins. As an active civil rights person since 1944, you seem to have a VERY narrow and unforgiving view of your fellow man. It is not up to you judge James Brown to Heaven or Hell. James did his time and paid back society a MILLION times over. To Compare him to Jim Jones or Jesse James is as about as ignorant as it gets. I, as a musician who was deeply influenced by the Godfather, I owe ultimate props to Him. I became a fuller, more rounded musician once I digested what James Brown gave to the world. Yes, I ate and drank the funk salvation, and whether I go to Heaven or Hell, I still found enlightenment through James Brown in this world.

It's amazing to read some of these most negative comments of a man, who just simply did his Thang, as a matter of fact, irregardless of the real life stuff that we all are prone to; the bottom line with the God father of Soul, is that HE had the courage to go do HIS thang. Which is more than i can say of some of the ignorant losers who wrote unkind remarks on a person who has transcended. THANK YOU SO MUCH JAMES BROWN FOR YOU SERVICE TO US ALL. GOD BLESS YOU.....!!!!HEY!!!!!!
