Pencil This In

MUSIC: Once we saw Men, Women & Children open up for Gang of Four and were pretty unphased. We then saw them play the Annex, and we couldn't stop smiling. Not really our type of music - but they put on quite a show, to say the least. Tonight they headline Bowery with Army of Me, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad and The Guts. Watch the below video to get an idea of what you're in store for:

7pm // Bowery Ballroom [6 Delancey St] // $15

THEATER: Dario D'Ambrosi, the Italian actor/playwright who has spent his career making theater that explores society’s treatment of the mentally ill, is currently unleashing A Crazy Sound at La MaMa. In this play with music, six patients in an asylum create a symphony using the materials of their beds as instruments. D’Ambrosi insists that A Crazy Sound is “a happy show; the patients sing, they make music, there are Christmas trees; at the end, they all escape.” The Times concurs: “Mr. D’Ambrosi has done something quite amazing. He has made a feel-good musical about the mentally ill.” Closes Saturday. - John Del Signore

7:30pm // La MaMa [74A East 4th St.] // Tickets cost $18

COMEDY: Comix always raises the bar with their showcases. Tonight is no exception as Premium Blend comedians Rodney Laney and Mike Somerville, and Gothamist fave Todd Barry take the stage. The price is a bit steep, but no one ever said the funny was free.

8pm // Comix [353 W. 14th St] // $18

The Times concurs: “Mr. D’Ambrosi has done something quite amazing. He has made a feel-good musical about 'the' mentally ill.”

And the Times errs, the play is not about "the" mentally ill ( a blatant Mel Gibson-ism), it is about a specific group of people in a specific place.

DONT DONT DONT go to that play... I did , and it is BAD. noty good/bad, just bad.

Thanks for the Comix shout out! The showcases last night and tonight were only $15. This weekend will be $18. In January, the showcases are only $10. We've had amazing line-ups for sure. Todd Barry, Louis CK, Colin Quinn, Caroline Rhea and others have dropped in as surprise guests, too.

Seriously, WTF does "unphased" mean, even *in* context? Speak/write in English, not in "cool". I used to lay off this schist, but not when it becomes unreadable.
