Flashback: 1980s New York Streetart

We're constantly amazed by the stuff that comes in on Gothamist Contribute. For instance, yesterday Allan Mohlo sent in a single black and white picture of a Richard Hambleton shadow-figure. Hambleton is a well-known streetartist from the 1980s, but we've seen relatively few photos of his pieces, so this one piqued our interest. We clicked through to Allan's Flickr stream, and lo-and-behold, found this amazing set of streetart shots. Check out a few of them:

Bonus: check out Allan's other sets-- he has some great Diana pix from the same period. If you've got some old NYC pix, send them in-- we love seeing this stuff.

You sure have low standards. Amazing? Are you high?

Only the last holds any interest and that's only because I cannot tell if it is a drawing or a piled up set of bricks.

To paraphrase the article, I'm constantly NOT surprised that Jake keeps putting up these articles on vandalism complete with lots of photos on the front page.

Do you know what really shows these "street artists" are nothings and nobodies? The fact that their only investment is a few bucks worth of spray paint and the cover of night. Any damn fool can vandalize a wall, and damn fools usually do.

Jake sure loves putting lots of big pictures right there on the fron page.
