- Midtown special on the Gothamist Newsmap: an overturned car at 11th and 44th Street, an armed robbery and pursuit on 43rd and 9th, and a hazmat condition at 47th and 9th.
- Noah Kalina, the oft-photographed everyman hero of Noah K Everyday, has recently expanded his self-portraiture by including a smattering of celebrities. A few days ago he discussed the project with the Washington Post: "I don't know if I would call it a catatonic look, I just consider it a blank emotionless stare." [Via Kottke]
- The Daily News gave it's Knucklehead of the Year Award to Judith Regan-- remember her? The runner-up was Alan Hevesi (of course.)
- It's funny because it's true: "Gow-anus"
- The NYPD says the murder-rate in NYC is up because of "reclassified" homicides-- that's where the crime was committed years ago, but the victim passed away of their injuries in the last 12 months: "35 deaths in the city in 2006 have been linked to wounds incurred as long as 30 years ago. That is roughly three times the historical average, and 14 more than the year before."
- Growlers are bottles of beer that you buy from a store and bring back to be refilled. They are popular in New England, and now available in Park Slope at Bierkraft.
- Oy, another scandal-filled week begins for The Donald: the newly hired president of Trump Mortgage appears to have manufactured most of his resume out of whole cloth.
- Doug Rushkoff got mugged at knifepoint-- at 9pm on Christmas Eve, outside his house in Park Slope! That bring back memories of all the times we got robbed at knifepoint by John Jay kids in the 1980s and early 1990s. Bad times.

Just FYI, growlers have been available at Bierkraft for quite some time now. It's the DeKoninck Winter Ale that's the new product.
And fyi, Gothamist, that's not the only place that has been stocking growlers either (start sleuthing in manhattan)...
Park Slope muggings have been a theme lately it seems. I got mugged there back in late October and know 2 friends who have been mugged there since.
speaking of beer fyi let's not forget the obvious....growlers are popular and available in many, many more places than just "new england." sheesh.
I'd like to give the guy the benefit of the doubt, as he's just been mugged, but is Rushkoff always that whiny and self-important?
*checks earlier blog entries*
Yes, yes he is. I also dig how we calls a commenter on his blog to task for conjecturing that Rushkoff's kid is in the district of a well-known Slope school, but in an earlier post lists the home address and other particulars of a guy who got into an altercation with a bicyclist Rushkoff doesn't even know.
sure sounds like one and did you see all the posts responding to his mugging.
You don't see Jake bitchin and whining. Say, does that Asian guy in the hospital ICU in Elmhurst have a blog?
Sorry to say but this is not uncommon with first time parents who instantly get guts just because they have someone else to "fight" for.
Michael medved wrote bout how he would "roll" his fists into a ball, yeah real tough guy.
..."All the times we got robbed by the John Jay Kids"
Wow! That's a pretty ignorant statement and hurtful as well.
- John Jay '91, VASSAR '95
tini in red hook has growlers now too.
The only people who ever tried to mug me growing up in the slope as well were Jon Jay kids. I dont see how thats ignorant, its simply a fact. Im glad you were one of the good ones Venus.
Sorry, I don't know the slope but is this John Jay HS the one who's students are terrorizing the residents? Or, is this another group? which group were mugging people in Prospect Park?
I thought Jake went to Stuy? Early eighties was kinda scary time. But still loads of fun. Times Square can be fun and scary.
