East Village Robbery Caught on Tape

2006_12_robmap.gifThe Post reports that two young women were robbed in the vestibule of a building at 103 St. Mark's Place early Thursday morning. Surveillance cameras show the man point a semiautomatic gun at the women, who are 21 and 19 year old. It's not clear how he got into the vestibule (is it usually unlocked? did he follow them in?). The man demanded their money and made them lay on the ground; he took a total of $60, a digital camera, and a cellphone. The camera also shows a couple walking outside who have no idea the robbery is taking place.

Neither of the women were injured during the 3AM incident. Police are looking for the man, who is about 5'11" and has a stocky build; call CrimeStoppers ith information at 800-577-TIPS.
