FILM: Tonight is one of the last Made in New York movie nights at MoMA. Tonight it's 1970 film, The Projectionist: "an early New York independent feature comedy much beloved by the young at heart about a lonely projectionist who works in a theater that shows “classic” films and whose imaginative daydreams transforms him into a hero, Captain Flash."

2006_12_arts_2001.jpgEVENT: Tonight BAM screens 2001: A Space Odyssey which will be followed by a live performance of Odyssey!, the rock opera (2001 years in the making) homage by Rob Lichter. His band includes a voice over actor, a middle school band director, two high school seniors, and a CPA, so it will be a very unconventional rock opera, and promises plenty of sci fi.

7pm // BAM, Peter Jay Sharp Building [30 Lafayette Ave, Fort Greene] // $10

THEATER: The Flea Theater recently urged a group of award winning writers to create short works using the poem 'Twas the Night Before Christmas as their inspiration. Christopher Durang, Len Jenkin, Roger Rosenblatt, Elizabeth Swados and Mac Wellman promptly complied and their 10-minute riffs on the holidays are now on view for your delight. J. Jordan “just about fell out of [her] chair from laughter” during the Durang play, and downtown provocateur Vadim Newquist is not to be missed in Wellman’s little opus. - John Del Signore

8pm & 10pm // Flea Theater [41 White St] // Tickets cost $20

MUSIC: The Red Romance, Inouk and Daylight's for the Birds make for a solid lineup at Merc tonight. The former is comprised of ex-Ambulance LTD members with a bit of Motown in their sound. Inouk has been on again, off again for a while - but we hope they stick around this time. Check out our interview with them from 2004, and give 'em a listen: Elected.mp3

8:30pm // Mercury Lounge [Houston at Essex] // $10
