Freedom Tower's First Beams Installed

Today, the first steel beams for Freedom Tower were installed at the World Trade Center site. Governor Pataki said, "Today the steel rises, the Freedom Tower rises from the ashes of Sept. 11, and the people of New York and the people of American can be proud." The first steel beam placed had the words "Freedom Tower" on it.

We're surprised it didn't say, "America, F--- Yeah!". The second beam installed was the one signed by the public in New York City and Virginia (at the factory). More beams will rise to street level by next spring.

The Freedom Tower RISES. For more information, check out LowerManhattan.Info.

While I'm incredibly happy to see this first step being taken, I can't help but wish it had happened years ago.

This so-called "Freedom Tower" is a monument of defeat for America and will be a permanant victory for the terrorists. It's a disgrace to all the victims of the 9/11 attacks. This tower is the subversion of Freedom. It's a second-rate design and an unworthy replacement for two marvelous twin towers that defined the New York skyline. It's not too late, we can still scrap the Freedom Tower in favor of new Twins. Rebuilding the original towers taller and stronger is the only way we can show defiance towards terrorism and to reclaim and restore the city's deformed skyline.

If you are a pro-rebuilder like me, go to www.twintowersalliance.com to sign a petition and send an appeal to Governor-elect Spitzer.

Bloody American freedom. No Thanks.

I find your ideas intriguing and I am interested in subscribing to your newsletter.

Ungratefully commie brits.....

Ungratefully commie brits.....

who still come here to shop and stop right in front of me when I'm trying to get somewhere.

Those are columns, not beams. Beams are structural members that support a load along their length while columns support loads applied to their ends. For the most part, if it's horizontal, it's a beam, and if it's vertical, it's a column.

As long as Governor Pataki and other Republican cronies are there to grandstand at the raising of every column, I sure feel safer.

**Yawn**. Who cares? It's a construction site - nothing more, nothing less. Moving on...

Enough with this ‘rebuild the world trade center the same as it was before, but stronger and taller’ shit.

The old WTC was an engineering marvel, but an architectural disaster. I wouldn’t want them to be rebuilt exactly how they were at all. The only reason New Yorkers liked them was because it grew on us, and even that took some time. Stop living in the past.

As long as Governor Pataki and other Republican cronies are there to grandstand at the raising of every column, I sure feel safer.

anonymass continuing to work "Republicans" and "cronies" into every post. You're a tiresome bore. Try using your brain for actual thought, not rote postings.

This is a column, not a beam. Think spreadsheets, columns go up and down.

Has anyone noticed that as the columns are erected spelling "Freedom Tower" vertically that the U.S. flag is presented backwards??? What's up with that? Some stupid graphic designer sending a message and slamming the U.S. or simple mistake for something which will be seen internationally in the media.

3000+ dead new yorkers? So what? I can't wait for more smug manhattanites to buy the farm at the hands of foreign terrorists!
