For the science geeks and those interested in drug test validity: The NY Post reports that an NYPD aviation pilot tested for coke when he failed a hair-sample drug test. But when pilot Jon Goldin took a urine test at a private lab, the test came back clean. Goldin's lawyer says that Goldin is innocent (he doesn't even drink alcohol!) and that his "positive for coke" test was due to the fact that Goldin's girlfriend is a cocaine user!
"We believe, based on her [drug] usage and from what the scientific people tell us, that this is a real possibility," [Paul Goldberger] said.Sexual relations of every kind! The Post references a case from years ago where a female police officer "successfully litigated her return to the NYPD after claiming oral sex with a drug-using boyfriend contaminated her test."Goldin has been dating the same woman for the past two years - but was unaware of her drug history, according to a source familiar with the case. She 'fessed up after Goldin flunked the drug test, the source contended.
"They've almost [been] living together and having sexual relations of every kind," said the source. "It turns out that she's a steady user - or was a steady user of cocaine for several years - and he did not know this."
Goldin, who patrols "sensitive locations" and has been part of many rescue operations, has been suspended without pay. Previously, the Collective Bargaining Board found that the NYPD's reliance on hair-analysis tests, versus urine tests, was unfair, so the NYPD's drug testing rules may be open to interpretation.

Do they test cops for alcohol use?
Cocaine can show up in urine for about 30 days after use, whereas a hair test can detect cocaine usage for up to 6 months....
So a more likely possibility is that somewhere between 30days and 6 months this cop used cocaine. And why not, its a helluva drug
I concur. Hair testing is longer term. Urine shorter term. He used cocaine.
Cocaine is water soluble and comes out in urine, I guess it could come out in semen. So hypothetically the female cop could have ingested cocaine in trace amounts in the body fluids of her drug using partner. But I have no idea if that would show up in a drug test, maybe if that guy did LOTS of coke?
Lets see them test THAT on mythbusters.
Regardless of his drug use: Does the Police want someone flying with a security clearance when he has a Cocaine using Girlfriend???
I think he used Coke and got caught...
I am a former Sheriff's Deputy of 21 years who was fired after a hair sample tested positive for cocaine. My urine sample tested negative. Coinicidentally the test were positive corresponding with my relationship with a girlfriend that I later suspected abused cocaine. The test is problematic and yields false positive results primarilly for cocaine. I personally now that the technogogy is flawed and bogus. In my opionion the company that performs the test "Psyhcemedics" has not revealed all the flaws
associated with the test do to fear of financial loss.
