  1. Surprisingly, TWU Local 100 president Roger Toussaint gets to keep his job.
  2. Speaking of getting lucky, remember when Natasha Lyonne got arrested for threatening to sexually abuse a neighbor's dog? She finally showed up for sentencing, and because she had already completed a rehab program and paid a $2000 fine, the judge dismissed the charges.
  3. Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a jumper down in Brooklyn, a " Male Down Elevator Shaft" on 77th Street, and a barricaded EDP in Queens.
  4. A 22 year old girl was killed by a private garbage truck in Murray Hill last night. A second victim is in serious condition at Bellvue.
  5. "Except my home, bitch."
  6. Santacon has been going on all day! Send in some to photos(at)goth dot com.
  7. A mostly silent protest against police brutality shut down Fifth Avenue this afternoon, and the tourists were not pleased: "Steve Diomopoulos, 22, a student from Livonia, Mich., called it “a weird time to be doing this,” and added: 'It’s an inconvenience to people like myself who came from out of town and want to get some Christmas shopping done. It’s almost like a hostile atmosphere. I don’t think that’s what people came here to see.'"

“a weird time to be doing this,” and added: 'It’s an inconvenience to people like myself who came from out of town and want to get some Christmas shopping done. It’s almost like a hostile atmosphere. I don’t think that’s what people came here to see.'"
stupid tourists, especially stupid tourists who make stupid statements in the paper, are an inconvenience EVERYDAY. you know what's more of an inconvenience? being shot at and killed and missing your wedding day. that's a real stinker.
"it's the most wonderful timmmmmeeee of the yearrrrrr".

Private sanitation truck hits TWO people this time.
One killed, other in serious condition.
It's the most wonderful time of year is right.
Now go get that Lexus and Diamond ring.

let's see. Group of criminals and their friends (at least one of the scumbags who got shot has been convicted of armed robbery) tried to kill a police officer and black police officer and his fellow officers tried to stop it.

Maybe Al Sharpton is when he is right fantasizing the return to the Dinkins era. 10,000 blacks were killed during Dinkins era. Maybe it was a good era, as Al said. Hope we can go back to that golden era.

btw, I thought Sharpton was in Tehran attending certain conference. After all, he has first hand experience (from crown heights) how to kill jews.

Did your KKK meeting just let out?

Hey Steve Diomopoulos, sorry to ruin you day, but despite appearances sometimes, NYC is not a mall. It's a real city, and sometimes real things happen in it. Grow up and try to see outside of your consumerist stupor.

While the Bell incident is tragic, NYC is not a town of only New Yorkers (we may think it is, but it's not, not by a long shot). The protest was a great example of our freedoms and rights, but to do it in the heart of Manhattan during one the busiest times of year, when the city depends on tourism etc was counterproductive.

A Times Square protest wuld have been more effective, but still counterproductive.

"10,000 blacks were killed during Dinkins era."?
(sigh)
And When was that, exactly?

"btw, I thought Sharpton was in Tehran attending certain conference. After all, he has first hand experience (from crown heights) how to kill jews."?
Oh, please.

I swear, the most extreme people show up here lately...

"I don’t think that’s what people came here to see."

The nerve of some people. I appreciate visitors to New York; they employ hundreds of thousands of people and add to the vibrancy and flavor of the city, but for the gods' sake, you great lakes moron, when would be a better time to be "doing this"?

sadly he does not have a facebook or this post could have gotten 10x juicier :P

I believe they are called yoopers or whatever the upper mich area is and I'd dare say, they've never seen black people before.
So it frightens them like nothing else.
If you liked his comment, you should check out NY1's segment. They interviewed two people, a foreign visitor and an U.S. visitor.
Guess which one mentioned it was their "right" to shop?

The Steve Diomopoulos quote really cracked me up!

LOL! What a jerk for saying that. Go back to Michigan and do your Christmas shopping!

CW11 interviewed a family from NH. The whole family applauded the march. Right on NH.
Live Free or Die!
Oh, and The NYPD shot an EDP in the Bronx. Dead on his way to the hospital.

yo, yooper... get a map. livonia is not in the upper peninsula of michigan and michigan does contain black people, believe it or not. ever been to the detroit area? your comments are just as bad and ill informed as his!

Livonia's not in Upper Michigan, it's very near Detroit. Let's try not to stereotype others, just as we don't want them to stereotype us.

Oh, like you'd set foot in Detroit? I know there's a hot bed of mich alum in this city and I'll bet many of them don't have many if any black friends.
Preach on, Reverend Al Sharpton.

Yuppie: S and GJR are right...get a map and at least be educated when hurling insults. And, believe it or not, there are definitely black people in the Upper Peninsula (not to mention, a hell of a lot less racism than here).

As far as the Mich population here, this Steve Diomopoulos jerk doesn't represent most people from the state. I mean, what if people in Michigan judged New York by Al Sharpton's actions?? :)

SD, I agree with you. The comments lately have been crazy.

Anyway, I'm from Detroit ("Detroit, Detroit") and I can guarantee you that Michigan is a divided place. Livionia is not in the UP and racism is EVERYWHERE, in the entire state. Growing up there, it was about race all the time and I kept wondering when people would get over it and move on to something that made sense. Racism does not make sense. It's just stupid.

Regarding that Livonia kids' remark: what a crock. And as to some of these comments, nothing will make some of you happier than for Sean Bell's killing just to go unnoticed.

You want to know what's wrong with the America? Read that "Except my home, bitch" conversation linked here from Overheard In New York. And think about it for a moment.

Are you kidding me? I bet you lots of Michigan judge NY by Al Sharpton actions. Have you seen the gun boards? Lot's of hidden racism in them.
Though I don't know why? Anyone who can afford the gun hobby has to have lots of disposible income.
So I don't see why they need to cry the victim excuse. Oh woe is me. I'm white, male, straight and Christian.

We know how Steve does not like to be inconvenienced. Conveniently, we New Yorkers can get in touch with him directly.

Steve's MySpace page

"In Blessed Memory of Sean Bell"? Maybe it's because I'm not that religious but when did this guy suddenly start being portrayed so religiously? What's next, demands that he be canonized as a saint or martyr?

Steve is the reason why I don't venture out of NY much. There is no there, there.
