"Born outside of Philadelphia in 1935, Boyle did brief stints in the Navy and then in a monastery in training as a monk." (source) (It also stated in the ny times link in the post that he was at one point leading the life of a monk.)

I believe that this article is partially in error. It states, "Boyle wasn't always an actor, he pursued acting only after he left the life of a monk." I don't believe Peter was a monk, he was a drama teacher at The Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (Catholic monks take religious vows).

The last time I saw him was on the Mind of Mencia show. He didn't look or sound well at all. I think this is going back to the beginning of the year (he showed up on two different episodes that I recall). I've always liked him since Young Frankenstein.

If you're blue and you don't know Where to go to why don't you go Where fashion sits... (THUD THUD) PUUUINNN ONNNAA RIIIZZZ!!!! A few years back Siskel & Ebert did a tribute to Hollywood's greatest comedies, and what was the very first clip they showed? Not the Marx Brothers, not Billy Wilder, not Preston Sturgis, not Charlie Chaplin, but... PUUUINNN ONNNAA RIIIZZZ!!!! Rent Young Frankenstein tonight. Also, I can remember reading that the first folks to get to Yoko at the Dakota the night Lennon was killed were Boyle and his wife. Apparently, they were quite the double-daters on the UWS in the late 70s. He'll be missed.

My favorite Peter Boyle acting is in the X-Files' episode, Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose. He was so amazing.
