Today many will gather at Strawberry Fields in Central Park to hold vigil on the anniversary of the death of John Lennon, which took place 26 years ago today. The NYCLU has asked the city to lift the ban on music at Strawberry Fields for every day of the year, not just twice a year for Lennon vigils.
Yoko Ono, who says she is still struggling to forgive the Mark Chapman, recently made a call for peace in the form of a one page ad in the New York Times, saying:
"Every year, let's make December 8th the day to ask for forgiveness from those who suffered the insufferable. Let's wish strongly that one day we will be able to say that we healed ourselves, and by healing ourselves, we healed the world."
Meanwhile, Liam Gallagher says he saw Lennon's ghost. And did you hear about the whole Stephen King shot John Lennon conspiracy theory?
Watch The Beatles Apple Rooftop Concert, above, which took place in London on January 30th 1969. Here are parts 2 and 3.
Let us know about any other Lennon vigils happening around the city today...

Thanks for posting this video Gothamist…
Not a huge Beatles fan, but this is hypnotic..!
You mean like listening to that dumbass sing?
Vinny, you'd rather hear diddy? now there's a dumbass
i find it odd that in a public park with space designated for john lennon (across the street from his former new york home) that the city discourages guitar playing and singing. that strikes me as, um, communist.
Does anyone have any video/photos of the Dec. 2006 vigil available for personal keepsake? It was a moving experience and I'd love to see it again. Post it here? Send it to me?
