Q Train Hits Transit Worker in Brooklyn

2006_12_aveu.jpgA 20-year veteran transit worker was clipped by a Q train yesterday around noon. Fifty-five year old Yakov Tesenter was near the Avenue U stop in Brooklyn on the Q. He was part of a team inspecting switches for repair, when he somehow got separated from the group. amNY reports that investigators are looking into whether the "flag man, who alerts oncoming trains that work crews are present," was at his post.

Tesenter is in critical condition, with injuries to his head, shoulder, ribs, pelvis and legs. Transit Workers Union President Roger Toussaint said the TWU's prayers were with the family, "This guy is pretty broken up. It shows the types of sacrifices transit workers endure everyday to keep the trains moving."

That last sentence just made me sick.

Sacrifices?!?! He sacrificed his body to delay the entire Q train! Thanks a lot! And how exactly is this guy making the trains run on time? Because I haven't heard of subways running on time ever. That would be front page news.

Toussaint is the man!

Leroy is a cracker.

Andrew, you're an ass. Hopefully you'll be the next person hit by a train. Just don't delay my train with your broken ass!

Seems to me that the Flagger was either not there, Or was "Preoccupied" with something else ! It's there job to alert the crew of oncomming train traffic so what happened ? Hope this trackworker comes through .
