READING: Mira Jacob and Alison Hart host yet another of Pete's Reading Series. Tonight they welcome Nell Freudenberger, author of "The Dissident" - which sounds almost like a Tom Robbins novel, with a Chinese performance artist and former political prisoner accepting teaching fellowships at a girls school. Also reading tonight will be Dana Spiotta, author of "Eat the Document", which focuses on lives in the aftermath of 1970s radicalism.

2006_12_arts_evens.jpgMUSIC: We recently interviewed Ian MacKaye, and he commented on the low $5 ticket price for Fugazi and The Evens shows, saying: "The 5 dollars was just a convenient way to figure the economy out, to say, 'Okay, 100 people, 500 dollars'. It’s really just a low door price concept. The Evens, the way we operate, have been able to do that.”

Tonight The Evens (pictured) play NYU. Guess how much?

8pm // NYU Kimmel Center, 4th Floor [60 Washington Square South] // $5

Ensemble Pamplemousse presents "pure and adulterated tones" for two nights in a row starting tonight. With flutes, computers, guitars, trombones, percussion, violoncello and more...the night is sure to be sonically pleasing. We interviewed two of the core members of the group a couple of years ago, you can read that here.

THEATER: Les Freres Corbusier has revived their breakout 2003 romp, A Very Merry Unauthorized Children’s Scientology Pageant, at New York Theatre Workshop’s second stage. The show enlists a cast of grade school children in the roles of Tom Cruise, Kirstie Alley, John Travolta (and other non-famous Scientologists) to bring the Church of Scientology to “jubilant life in story and song.” (It's unclear whether the show has been updated to include child portrayals of Katie, Suri and Beck.) - John Del Signore

7pm // NYTW 4th St. Theater [83 E. 4th St.] // Tickets cost $25 on weekdays, $35 on weekends

"Widows of Troy" is an adaptation of "The Trojan Women". Using Euripides' tragedy as a way to view and reimagine the post-war conditions for women of Troy. "As Queen Hecuba waits in her crumbling palace for orders from the victorious Greeks, she and her widowed daughters must accept the atrocities that have irrevocably destroyed her family and city."

8pm // December 7th through 22nd // The Syrup Room [100 Ingraham St] // Whatever you can pay

Have you considered captioning the photos in these "to-do" lists? I have no idea which listing refers to the two people pictured here.
