Streetsblog has this great map from Bruce Schaller, transportation consultant, that visualizes rush hour traffic between 4PM and 8PM. (The key notes "Average peak direction driving speeds: Red - Under 6 mph; Pink - 6 to 10 mph; Gray - Over 10 mph.)
Streetsblog also has an excellent write-up of a forum "Road Pricing Worked in London. Can It Work in NY?" that was held today. We find "Gridlock" Sam Schwartz's suggestion that tolls should be eliminated outside central business districts and introduced "only where there is congestion and good public transit" very intriguing.

I find it a bit amazing the there are three metrics for traffic moving under 10 mph. It's all gridlock in my book.
How is it the tunnels are traffic free?
re:tunnels
maybe because nobody is turning and they don't have traffic lights, pedestrians or buses?
it seems like there is a lot of public will for congestion charging. that could translate into political will if the talk keeps up.
I dont think there is any real will out there in the public for this. Maybe amongst Gothamist readers. This would be political suicide for any politician.
