Campaign promises all too often ring hollow - although, of course, we're better off with them than without them! As for the advice and consent powers, the City Council is definitely more likely to decline reappointment of commissioners who are backed by the mayor and the Landmarks Commission chair if there's a public outcry from constituents.

The reason for requiring reappointment is that a new City Council hearing must be held, giving the public the opportunity to comment on the commissioner's performance--and for the Council to decline to reappoint commissioners who have performed poorly.

Sure, take campaign promises seriously, but considering how popular historic buildings are now and also considering that tons of them get knocked down anyway, what do we need a landmarking commission for? Seems like another stupid waste of money, but then NYC wastes billions of dollars more than tens of the world's countries on useless (and many times detrimental) crap all the time.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who takes campaign promises dead seriously.

We all should take campaign promises seriously. Checks and Balances, and we the people.
On another note, The Mayor is actively seeking more City Marshals. Because there has not been any new Marshals for over a decade. Koch for one, thought it was an antiquated idea.
