There was a lot up on the auction block this week at Christie's. Yesterday was their Rock & Pop Memorabilia auction. Beatles lyrics penned by Paul McCartney (that's Sir Paul McCartney, to you) went for $197,000. The song? An early version of Maxwell's Silver Hammer from 1968. Jimi Hendrix's 1968 Fender Stratocaster (modified to accommodate his left-handed use) sold for $168,000.
Meanwhile, a page of Britney Spears's homework went for $240 (less than an iPod!). View the page here. More on what rock n' roll items sold, here.
The big sale happened today though, at another Christie's auction. The iconic Givenchy black dress that Audrey Hepburn wore in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" sold for $807,000. Just last month Natalie Portman wore the dress in her Harper's Bazaar photoshoot. The dress is reportedly a size 1, and it looks more like a costume on this Christie's employee.

Gah, th picture of the dress on the Christie's employee just takes all the magic out of it. And I didn't realize it was so satiny!
I just don't think the employee was the right fit for the dress. the neckline on audrey looked a bit higher than on the employee (perhaps because the employee has bigger boobs?)
