I'm surprised that they didn't escort his son to the Funeral. In NYS, prisoners are sometimes allowed to attend parents Funeral or at least the wake.

nick, I did think about how much I should mention Justin Volpe in the post, and ultimately, I think these days more people are familiar with Justin Volpe's name than his father's. And Justin Volpe has a rather unfortunate, infamous legacy that is also being brought up again as the investigations of the Queens shooting continue.

My family having known personally many members of his family (including Justin), I'd like to say they are a wonderful group of people filled with love and warmth. Of course, what happened to Mr. Louima is a tragedy in and of itself, but that tragedy spread through the Justin's family as well. I wish them warmth and comfort at a sad time.
