A Kick In The Head

2006_12_sgiantscowboys.jpgThis team is too good to talk about moral victories. Yes, the Giants did some good things yesterday, but the bottom line is that they lost 23-20 and in doing so, put their playoff hopes and perhaps their season in jeopardy.

Once again the Giants showed the propensity to make the big mistake or the dumb move at the wrong time, which has marked the majority of Tom Coughlin’s tenure here. They were whistled for nine penalties, including four personal fouls and three false starts, marks of an undisciplined team.

Yet, New York came down the field with three minutes left and tied the game with a little over a minute remaining. But, instead of running the clock, Plaxico Burress called a timeout during the drive that left Dallas with plenty of time to win the game. Jason Whitten took advantage of bad coverage to catch a 42-yard reception and the Cowboys got the winning field goal. Now, New York heads to Carolina at 6-6 desperately needing a win. They said the right things after the game yesterday, but you have to wonder if this team can prevent a total collapse.

At the end of the first half, the Giants were within field goal range on a 4th down. They chose to go for it instead of kicking, then promptly turned the ball over. I bet they wish they had kicked, suckers. I dont really care because I think the Giants are a bunch of loudmouthed, underachieving, undisciplined shmucks, but do I hope that's the last time Coughlin listens to Eli "the obviously adopted younger brother" Manning in a similar situation.

I hate to see the Giants lose to the Cowboys, especially due to penalties and mistakes. But any game that features the hilarious caricature that is Martin Gramatica is worth watching. Like they said on TV, "nobody celebrates a kick like Gramatica..."

Coughlin was outcoached by Parcells for sure...
