Hold on to Your Hats
All sorts of stuff happening today. Let's start with a review of our warm and wet November. Last month tied 1994 and 1931 as the fifth warmest November in Central Park since records began in 1869. 7.34 inches of rain in Central Park made last month eighth wettest November.
Yesterday was 21.5 degrees warmer than normal. Hell, yesterday's low was ten degrees above the normal high temperature. It was 67 at three this morning. Its cooled a bit since then but we may rebound to a record-setting 70 degrees by noon.
Enjoy the warmth while you can. Weather conditions will rapidly deteriorate this afternoon as the huge storm that's dumped more than a foot of snow on Kansas, and wreaked havoc with freezing rain in Missouri and Illinois, pays us a visit. There's been a few showers this morning but the real show starts in the afternoon. A high wind warning is in effect from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m. We can expect steady winds of 20-25 miles an hour with gusts up to 60 mph. Wind by itself isn't all that entertaining, so Mother Nature is throwing in showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Umbrellas will be futile in such strong winds, but if your's survives let Gothamist know where you got it.
The rain will be gone by tomorrow morning. So will the warmth. Sort of. Tomorrow will be twenty degrees colder than today. Even so, that's still warmer than normal! The current National Weather Service forecast has us cooling off by a couple of degrees every day next week. We'll be lucky to make it into the forties by next week. Say hello to December!
