Only Eight Hours (or Less) of Shake Shack Left This Year

2006_11_shackclose.jpg

Last night we took our final trip to Shake Shack for the season and as luck would have it, they actually ran out of burgers for the night. The manager told us that it was the first time that it's ever happened to them since they've been open. Why the burger shortage? Thursday's nice weather combined with a bad forecast today. They did have plenty of everything else though and since we already waited in line for 20+ minutes and were close to ordering, we just went with some hot dogs.

Shake Shack is open today from 11 AM - 7 PM and will re-open on March 21, 2007. If you do go, be sure to take in some of the sculptures that are in Madison Square Park. Until next year, Shake Shack.

    dhex,

Get a life. You sound like a loser.

  • jojo

shake shack is good if you wait five minutes or less. Anything more than five minutes and you are a loser who should kill themselves cause it's not really worth it.

  • i have to say, i love shake shack, try to go a couple times during the season, and if you haven't been there you should go - TODAY.

i think it's fine to post relatively significant dates or newsworthy events, don't get me wrong, but the constant coverage (on gothamist and elsewhere) is driving me mad (opening day, closing day, flagrant health code violations and treacherous falling Z's notwithstanding).

i'm almost wishing for a long harsh winter.

  • lames

shake shack = mcdonald's for yipsters.

  • SS Nazi

    Shake Shack is awesome!

I used to work there for a while. Added my special topping to each burger too!

Its my Jizzum that gives it that extra flavor!

anomalous...i'm not taking pride in my "willful ignorance," i'm merely stating the truth. and the truth is, how good food tastes (especially when we're talking about burgers and fries) is extremely relative! have you and several thousand other people eaten every burger in the city and then conducted a poll so that we can say "the majority of new yorkers say shake shack has the best burger in town?" if we're gonna look at objective stuff, what about all those health code violations shake shack got earlier this year? (i can't believe i even know this...thanks gothamist!) i think it's pretty reasonable to say there are hundreds of delis, hot dog stands, vendors, chinese joints, etc. that also enjoy a dedicated clientele.

and for the record, i love checking out hungry cabby type posts that highlight a new or local joint, but biweekly (at least in the summer) posts on the shake shack are just absurd. unless you live/work right around there you will probably never go except maybe once if you happen to be in the neighborhood. let's hear about some other places....or nothing at all.

"I hate charred flesh, and I certainly CAN'T STAND sauce and BUNS".

Its about the custard people. THE CUSTARD!

  • why does gothamist even bother enabling comments?

"PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE! Stop with the SS updates/alerts!

    Really, no one cares."

    you obviously care!

"They do it to generate comments, and of course we're feeding right into it."

    congratulations!

alternate theory: they really like the shake shack.

alternate alternate theory: just watch this documentary "loose fries" to see the truth the bush administration and gothamist don't want you to know!

original theory: this whole place is shitted up with geniuses with very short tempers. an exquisite corpse of greatness...

I'm sure DRES is Danny Meyer. He probably has nothing better to do than peruse message boards posting great comments about shake shack the day before it closes for 4 months.

  • J

Gothamist reports on Shake Shack = a slow news day in NYC

  • AP

DRES = owner of Shake Shack

  • mel

    Manhattan lemmings...

  • DRES

I LOVE SHAKE SHACK. SO DOES BASS. STOP DOGGIN' BASSMAN'S FAVORITE JOINT. I'M GOING TO STARVE MYSELF UNTIL MARCH WHEN IT REOPENS. YOU GUYS ARE IDIOTS IF YOU THINK THERE'S A BETTER BURGER THIS SIDE OF THE MISSISSIPPI.

  • Sweet Fancy Moses

Where is the "Ignore all stories by Tien" button?

  • anonymass

They do it to generate comments, and of course we're feeding right into it. I propose we all boycott this site for a full day each time there is a Shake Shack post. I'm serious.

About Shake Shack: I prefer their ratburgers. Or when the employees use the toilets in the public park bathrooms and supposedly 'wash their hands' in these obviously hyper-sanitary facilities.

Enjoy your feces fries, Tien. Fucking lemming.

  • why do ewe

Why does this site hype this place so much?

When you put it up on a pedestal like this, people will find fault with it.

and, what happens when the quality goes down or another bad health inspection report is written up?

It's just a friggin burger in the end.

  • Joe

Tien, we must have missed each other by just a few minutes. Luckily, I was there early enough to get a burger.

  • ABC Girl

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE! Stop with the SS updates/alerts!

    Really, no one cares.

  • J

Again with the Shake Shack ...?

Does Gothamist own stock in it or something..?

Corner Bistro has a better burger anyway...

  • Kojak

Oh who gives a flying F*CK

Who cares how good the burgers are. Who the hell would spend their entire lunch hour waiting on line for a burger?

  • ji

Does Gothamist have a majority stake in Shake shack or something?

  • anon

700?? i challenge you to find 50 better burgers in nyc than shake shack's.

  • Kojak

    Thank god.

Now we can move on and talk about more important issues until shake shack reopens.

  • anomalous

If you've never been there how would you know there are "700 equal or better casual eateries in the city"? Kind of sad that you take pride in your willful ignorance.

  • fishtale

never been there, never will go there. this is nyc. there are about 700 equal or better casual eateries in the city, many of them closer to me and no doubt most of the other people reading this.
