Okay, Okay...Kids Rock

2006_11_arts_pm.jpg

First there were kids in bands, then baby disco...now The New York Times covers the rock music for babies phenomena...

"Yet when his father recently unwrapped a new CD of ’80s British alternative rock reimagined expressly for babies, Casey was indifferent. As “Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of the Cure” played on the stereo, he kicked fitfully in his bouncy seat. He appeared not to recognize the wordless glockenspiel-and-vibraphone rendition of the Cure’s “Boys Don’t Cry.” Within seconds he spit up."

In about 10 years there are going to be a lot of confused kids out there hearing some band called The Cure for the first time, wondering why they're playing all of these lullaby songs from their crib days. They'll probably write about it on their blogs.

One thing The Times forgot to mention was Pancake Mountain, the television program that joins kids together with today's indie bands. Watch all the episodes here (including shows with Ted Leo, The Arcade Fire, The Evens and many more).

...us kids know...no cars go...

this pancake mountain seems like a total ripoff of CHIC-A-GO-GO, the legendary public access program based in chicago, except pancake mountain seems to have lesser (rather, boring) acts. little kids dancing around the scissor girls in the 90s. you can't beat that!
