Gothamist: Huge Fire at Prospect and 4th Ave

who knew so many gothamist commenters lived in such close proximity? i used to live on 16th and 4th, were the two houses the burnt down the ones that had the huge "$200 dollar real estate" signs on them?

this is next door to my current apartment...well, as of last night. thank god no one was home in either of the two places beside the tire shop that was the cause of the fire.

Weird...I used to live right near there up until a few months ago. It's hard to say by the photos but I'd say the source was the tire repair place at that intersection. I understand in the auto-service industry you can't be perfectly clean all the time but that place was pretty filthy and cramped. If there were flammable materials in there, I'd see it as pretty easy for a leaky something to go unnoticed.
