Goodburger on Lexington Opens

Gothamist reader Sean of Philly2Hoboken sent us an update about the new Goodburger on Second Avenue (the one we were excited about in September, after seeing it begin to emerge).

Goodburger on Lexington Avenue opened this week, and delivery is expected by Monday. They have about 25 seats available to sit down, and it seemed the majority of people were there for takeout on Wednesday. Tried the cheeseburger and have the following mini-review:

I ordered the "Goodcombo #1", which is a Cheeseburger ($6.25), Fries ($2.25) and Milkshake ($5.25).

1. Burger: I ordered the cheeseburger, with "The Works" (Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Pickles, Ketchup, Mustard and Mayo), Grilled Onions ($.50 extra) and Bacon (1.50 extra). The meat was tender, and at the store a little sign claims to cook every burger as "medium" unless asked. Our burgers were medium rare at best. Personally, I don't mind that, but I am sure some customers won't like their meat so pink. The bacon was crisp, and the grilled onions weren't bad, but it was a bit of onion overkill because "The Works" already include onions.

2. Fries: Easily one of the better fries out there. Typical shoe string fries, cooked to a golden brown and a generous salt seasoning.

3. Milkshake: I had the chocolate milkshake, which was made with "all-natural hand-scooped Vermont ice cream". Absolutely delicious, hit the spot after a greasy meal.

Service: The employees there were friendly, efficient and quick. They have a touch-based computer system and itemize every order. When I arrived, there were fifteen orders ahead of me. After I placed my order, I was out the door in less than 10 minutes.

All that for $15.50. Goodburger will certainly give an unhealthy competition to equally as expensive, but tasty Burger Heaven on 62nd and Lexington to the midtown customers.
Goodburger has two locations - Second Avenue at 43rd Street and now Lexington at 54th Street.

What's up with that $6 shake?! that better come with a lap dance.

user-pic

Looks good, but like anything in NY, it comes with an indigestable price tag.

user-pic

You gotta be kidding. You can get the same meal at Reid's, in Lockport, Ny, for about 1/3 the price. You people in NYC are nuts to pay those kinds of prices for a burger, fries and a shake.

Although...that shake did look good. But, I'm not going to give into temptation as after yesterday, I have to be good.

user-pic

Hmm. Their prices seem to have gone up....

I remember over the summer that it was entirely possible to eat a good meal at Goodburger for around $!0.

Considering that it's NYC, and that their ingredients are obviously of a higher grade than what you'd find at a typical fast food joint, I think the price is readily justified. They *are* good burgers after all.

That said, it certainly isn't the healthiest stuff around.

If I want a burger, and fries with a milkshake, I know not to go this place ! $15.50 ?????? They are gassed if they think I'm paying all that for something that just going to go for a ride through my system and out the lower hole down the drain !

How does Goodburger compare to Shake Shack in terms of quality and price?

user-pic

I refuse to eat anywhere that sells fries separately. God, I hate that.

Adam,
Goodburger is indigestion-inducing. It does not compare favorable to Shake Shack at all.

Shake Shack has the edge on the burgers (tastier meat, fresher veggies) but Good Burger's fries are tastier. That said, their cheese fries cost a fortune and I like the soggy mass that is Shake Shack's cheese fries. Also, you can get a Double Shack and cheese fries for $9 and the equivalent meal at Good Burger would set you back about $14. I go to Good Burger because it's close to my office and it is a good burger, better than most. But I prefer Shake Shack.

I ate there a couple weeks ago, it was very very disapointing. The burger is small, the bun is your run of the mill McDonald's-esque piece of fluffy poop. I did not try the fries and shake because they were so overpriced I almost walked out and didnt even buy the burger. There are so many other options for burgers that are better than just "good" and are cheaper, made with higher quality ingredients, I don't understand how these guys will survive. Other than the hype and the shiny new restaurant, these guys have nothing.

Why are people comparing burgers to shake shack? Corner Bistro beats in taste and price, still less than $10 including the fries and beer!

user-pic

corner bistro is so overrated. i thinkt he best burger in the city is burger joint at le parker meridien.

and on the matter of THIS fucking place. 15 DOLLARS FOR A COMBO? i hate to be the typical west-coast transplant, but a combo at in and out will cost you 5.50 and they use top notch ingredients.
