Well, it looks like I was right to blame the victim yesterday. The LaGuardia chick got into the "dark car" voluntarily. Cheap, drunk, lazy. You get what you pay for.

Oh, come on Leslie. Everyone knows hipsters ride track bikes and hate cabs with a passion.

Why any person would critize what Right Rides is doing is beyond me.

I'm not sure about Leslie's priorities and think they may be a bit askew if talking trash about Right Rides is one of them. As MC correctly pointed out, Right Rides provides women of all ages -- that would include the elderly -- a free ride at night. The reason that it serves the neighborhoods that it does is because it was founded originally to address assaults that occurred in Williamsburg and Greenpoint. It has since expanded its area of service to other neighborhoods, and has plans for further expansion. However, its expansion is hampered by the following: 1) it's still relatively new, 2) it's all volunteer, and 3) it's wholly dependent on donations. So cut these people who are doing great work some slack. Better yet, go out and do something useful yourself.

I think every young girl should downplay her looks. Wear a hoodie or baggy pants."

Nice. Fug girls, continue on your way.

When will people stop the blame the victim mentality? It has nothing to do with age (see eldery woman assaulted) or with what you are wearing. People in baggy clothes and big pants still get assaulted. This line of thing does nothing to solve this issue. The problem is not the victim (I know this may come as a shock to some), the problem is the offender.

And, Leslie, it helps to research something before you post. Right Rides is relatively new. They cannot service everywhere all the time just yet. They rely on volunteers, and they can run as many cars as they have volunteers. Once they get the funding and attention they deserve, most likely they will be able to service areas like the Bronx. But you are right, an organization for woman that is supportive and beneficial may never receive the funding and attention (and the respect you fail to extend) before hell freezes over. Here's an idea--go be a part of the change rather than complaining about it. They always need people.

How does one ascertain who is more at risk? They both pose different risks. Statistically, overall the trans person probably is. But that does not matter since Right Rides would still serve a woman, no matter her age, at night.

First of all, who takes a livery cab in Greenwich Village?

Second of all, Right Rides will serve the Bronx when hell freezes over; it's only for hipsters too cheap to take a cab over the Williamsburg bridge.

How about providing the elderly with rides? Who's more at risk -- 80 year-old women or cross-dressers??

Where are our priorities?
