Decking the Museum Halls: Holiday Hours

The holiday season is upon us, and with shorter work hours and more days off, it often seems like the perfect time to hit up those museums you never have a chance to. Beware the holiday hours, however. Below is a little cheat sheet of what to expect at the (major) museums over the next month.

MoMA

Closed on Christmas day and Thanksgiving day, closes at 4:00 p.m. on December 24.
The Museum will be open during regular hours on the following Tuesdays:

Tuesday, November 21, 2006
Tuesday, December 19, 2006
Tuesday, December 26, 2006
Tuesday, January 2, 2007

American Museum of Natural History

The Museum is closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

The Origami Tree and Holiday Barosaurs went up yesterday. Love the decorated dinos!

The Brooklyn Museum

Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.

The Met
Closed Mondays (except as listed below), January 1, Thanksgiving Day, December 25

They even have a special page dedicated to Holidays at the Met, and starting today the Museum's annual Christmas tree and Neapolitan Baroque crèche display will be on view in the Medieval Sculpture Hall. "The brightly lit, 20-foot blue spruce—decorated with a collection of 18th-century Neapolitan angels and cherubs and a baroque crèche at its base—will be set in front of the 18th-century Spanish choir screen from the Cathedral of Valladolid."

The Cloisters

Closed January 1, Thanksgiving Day, December 25

The Cloisters will have a number of seasonal events, such as yuletide concerts and gallery talks. Many go to check out their seasonal decorations, their halls will be decked from December 5th through January 7th.
