I totaly agree with the last comment- I am happy to have Max 2 blocks away- and as the winter is coming...cup of hot chocolate becomes a need.

I am so confused as to how many people are being so negative about something like this.....Starbucks, McDonalds and so many other chains have taken over this city, something new from the outside world that no one's familiar with should be accepted! I've explored their menu several times at the Union Square location and I welcome with open arms a much cozier spot to relax with a hot chocolate. Why are people so negative and acting like pathetic losers? Get over yourselves.....

Does anyone know if they'll have the breakfast special that the other shop ran after opening? A cappuccino and a pain de chocolat for a dollar should could make accepting the loss of a vacant sushi restaurant a little easier.

Matt: before the sushi restaurant it was a Starbucks that moved across the street around February 2004. I lived at 141 Second Avenue for four years (when it was still housing the Starbucks) - I never went into the Starbucks, but I imagine if I still lived there now I'd be in there eating chocolate every day...

To all you people saying 'ugh', there are still plenty of health food cafes in the East Village - no one's forcing you to eat at Max Brenner. If I can cope with passing 5 Starbucks every day on my way to work (I loathe Starbucks) you can deal with 2 Max Brenner stores.

Max Brenner is a chain that started in Israel in the 90s. Also, this Max Brenner fellow has a serious complex about his lack of hair. "Chocolate by the bald man"?

Is Max Brenner a chain or are they all local to New York? I like chocolate as much as the next girl, but I'm worried it's part of the Urban Outfitters-ization of the East Village. Anyone have any info?

I happen by the new one on a multiple-times-per-day basis. I swear they look open. I know the sign says the 27th, but there were quite a few people sipping coffee in there last night and even at 9am this morning, there were "plainclothes" people in there and, as you mentioned, piles of cookies and muffins that didn't look like they'd last until the 27th.

I really wasn't that impressed with the last once. It's slightly pricier than La Maison and nowhere near as good. Although, the staff was better looking and they have a hidden sample drawer that slides open if you flirt with them.
