The Nintendo Wii went on sale last night, providing a second, if slightly anti-climactic, game console release of the week. There didn't seem to be any reports of violence around the Wii, perhaps because it is $351 cheaper than the PlayStation 3, but people were still enthusiastic. Gizmodo said about 1,000 people were waiting on line last night, but with reports of 5,000 Wii consoles available, who knows if the wait was worth it?
A 15 year old Manhattan girl told the Daily News, "When I get it, I'll probably jump up and down." She had waited on line since Friday night, leaving "for only a few hours to take her SAT exam yesterday." If you want to know why American students do poorly against their foreign counterparts, blame the foreign companies that bring these diversions to our shores! And then we have to blame ourselves.

Just got back from 9 hours out in the cold between Toys R Us Times Square with 2000 people to Nintendo World Store @ Rockefeller Center with 500 some others. Got my Wii though. :)
I just got back from Circuit City at Union Sq. (but not for a Wii), there was a line down to 13th. Looked much less lame then the ps3 line, the lady at the front was only there for like 3 hours (since 9AM).
they ran out of wii's in the metro area already :(. i try to get mines this morning.
