Extra, Extra

  1. Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a police car MVA on the West Side Highway and Spring Street, a jumper down on Broadway and Havemeyer in Brooklyn, and car vs. building in Greenpoint.
  2. Scary: "About one hour ago I was walking down Washington Place and at the corner of Avenue of the Americas, an SUV pulled up onto the sidewalk right in front of me. Two guys jumped out, maybe three, I was kind of in shock. The doors were open and the engine running. They threw a man onto the sidewalk and jumped on top of him."
  3. Memories of Prospect Heights in the 1960s: "We could buy a pack of cigarettes for 28 cents at the drug store... The rent in those days ran about $100 or $150 a month."
  4. Contagious media guru Jonah Peretti wrote in to say "Check out my latest project: Buzzfeed. The site is like a cross between a meme tracker and a trend blog." It's currently tracking the rise of memes concerning post-modern hip-hop, celebrity nipple slips, and big plastic sunglasses. Terrifying!
  5. Time Out New York has published a useful guide to the current bar scene in NYC. Useful if you're tired of drinking at the same three places in your 'hood.
  6. The Times catches up with Maxwell from Apartment Therapy: he's just finished renovating his 265 sqft West Village apartment, where he lives with his wife and new baby. Total rent: $780/month.
  7. David Walentas, the real estate baron who controls 75% of DUMBO, won't rent to Duane Reade. He's looking for a mom-and-pop pharmacy.
  8. Marty Markowitz is on the case of the missing Brooklyn Parrots-- the borough president actually owns a parrot: "a talking five-year-old African gray parrot named Beep, whose vocabulary includes “words” like “fughedaboutit.”"
  9. Speaking of Marty, he was at the ground breaking for the new Whole Foods megamart in Gowanus. Ground-water seepage, toxic pollutants, and traffic nightmares be damned-- Park Slope residents will have their supermarket by 2008.
  10. Sounds like yesterday's legal snafu wasn't enough to derail the Stuy Town deal. The Observer is reporting that the deal closed today.

Enough with bar guides, bar scene, or bar guides to the bar scene already.
Are they all really necessary?

The apartment looks beautiful, but what are they going to do once baby is bigger? Baby can't sleep in a basket in the corner forever.

Wow. The last time I saw something like that was in a WWII movie and the guys were Gestapo agents.
Lemme guess; "Homeland Security", Ja?

Sieg Heil!. I feel 'safer' already.

". . .I was walking down Washington Place. . ."
