As far as the security, There not suppose to get involved in bar fights . That's just the training they are suppose to receive prior to starting work . Police are the only authority figures that can detain anybody . They have the power of the law at there disposal . Security guards don't have that right . They are private citizens like everybody else .

While I agree with her lawsuit against the bar . The principle of this situation is, You can't go to a bar and expect the club security to provide [100]% protection when your in there establishment . It's like crossing the street, Just because you have the signal in your favor doesn't necessarily mean your safe . A car could be turning into the intersection your crossing and hit you . Does that mean the driver was operating the vehicle in a reckless manner ? Maybe, It depends on the situation at the time that dictates the course of action .

bounders are usually hired from a security agency and not affiliated with the bar/club. I have a friend who used bounce and i remember him saying that "it's not in their job description to break up a fight if weapons are being used, only punching." i can understand that, but who in charge of checking for weapons at the door? and what's considered a weapon? anything sharp including pens?

Plain old humanity would dictate that if you see somebody slashing somebody else that you try and stop it (There are ways of protecting oneself in the process). Watching two girls pull their hair is one thing but not if one of them has a blade and is going after the other's face.

i think there is some sort of complicating factor with bouncers and insurance policies for bars - not sure the exact details, but i think if bouncers get involved in fights, bars can lose their insurance.
