Gotta love an event called "Gluttony," although we were sad to learn there wasn't any food involved. Atlantic food writer Corby Kummer pulls together chefs Mario Batali and Dan Barber (pictured), and James Beard Award winning writer Barbara Kafka to discuss whether the newest high-tech equipment glorifies or destroys the freshest low-tech ingredients. 1:00 PM in South Court Auditorium of The New York Public Library. Arrive early for best seat selection; doors open 30 minutes prior to event. $15 general admission and $10 library donors, seniors and students with valid identification. November 18: Clinton Street Crawl
The gang at Thrillist passed along this event which benefits Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Over 30 local businesses are offering discounts and specials to those with telltale armbands, available online. $15 at Entango.com, or $20 at the crawl. Food and drink specials include free oyster shooters from Bondi Road, 2 for 1 drinks at the Delancey, and complimentary Hot Buttered Cider at Clinton Street Bakery. November 19: Winemaker Dinner at Trestle on Tenth
Ralf Kuettel, chef and owner of Trestle on Tenth, presents his first winemaker dinner with Eric Pfifferling of Domaine L'Anglore. Eric will be on hand to take guests through four courses specially created by Ralf to accompany four of his organic wines. $75 per person, 242 10th Ave at West 24th Street, 6:00-9:00pm.
