Clearly do not leave a turkey on the counter in a 80 degree room for 4 hours, but do bring it above the 40 degrees that the USDA recommends before cooking.

Please use common sense.

Storing raw meat at room temperature for any length of time is dangerous.  Bringing it up to room temperature immediately before cooking it should be okay.  After all, if you take the turkey out of the refrigerator and put it into the oven, you are bringing it up to room temperature on its way up to 160 degrees.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
