Okay, so slaving in the kitchen for hours on end isn't for everyone. If you want to leave the entire Thanksgiving planning, shopping, prep, cooking, and cleanup to someone else, or if the thought of eating aunt Irma's dried out excuse for a bird throws you right over the edge, dining out might be for you. Grab the family and a few friends for good measure and instead of making a turkey or a pumpkin pie, make a reservation.
Manhattan User's Guide provides a comprehensive list of restaurants offering traditional and non-traditional Thanksgiving menus, from A Voce to Wallse and many in between. Open Table also lists scads of options, while NY Mag gives a roundup by neighborhood. We also know that Savoy is offering a delicious-looking menu and plan to get a full report from someone eating there that day, and we would love to try Chef Michael Psilakis of dona's Thanksgiving dinner since we've been so impressed with the rest of his food.
Anyone dining out for Thanksgiving this year or have reviews from Thanksgivings past? We want to hear all about it!

To each his own, but eating out on Thanksgiving seems kind of... anti-celebratory to me. Half the fun is lazing around in the living room before and after the meal with relatives and / or friends that you don't see very often. Also, it's a little hard to have that one-too-many helpings of turkey at a restaurant.
the only thing that annoys me more than Thanksgiving is people who call it "turkey day."
That being said, Jesus Day is just around the corner.
Mmmm, delicious Jesus.
2 years ago my family went to Knickbockers in the Village, and it was the worst meal ever. Everything tasted like it had been made hours before dinner. The turkey was almost like shoe leather.
went to wallse with my family 3 years ago, fantastic new-austrian, but just not the same as turkey, football, and beer at home.
I went to Old Homestead with my family and the waiter jokingly told us that they ran out of turkey. Except it wasn't a joke. And yes, we had reservations and it was only 3:00 pm or so. And they didn't say anything until after we had already sat down and ordered drinks. Not good.
Hey this is an interesting article. On a side note, as noted above, Turkey Day and Xmas are right around the corner and with that come the droves of family and friends that want to come to NYC to see the lights, storefronts etc. Anyone here know of any good deals or discounts at restaurants, where I can take out of towners and show them a good time (without draining my account)? Thanks!
Hey Chris! Check out www.diningfever.com for good restaurant deals with your family in town. They offer rotating deals, and to nice places, not cheesy chains. I swear by them!
