  1. Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a homicide on 48th and 9th Avenue, barricaded EDPs in Queens and the Bronx, and a jumper down in Chelsea.
  2. The Flight 587 memorial was unveiled today in Belle Harbor, Queens; some families complained that the memorial is 15 blocks from the actual crash site, which is in a predominantly white neighborhood (many of the victims were of Dominican extraction.)
  3. The Times has a long feature on Hart Island's Potter's Field, where "an estimated 800,000 people have been buried" over the last 137 years.

  5. Adrienne Shelly's killer "lived in hiding with his illegal-immigrant relatives in a basement boiler-room hovel owned by their construction boss."
  6. Catholic schools are trying to stop City Council members from banning aluminum bats, but the aluminum bat-ban bill's sponsor says the Catholic schools just don't want to have to buy new wood bats
  7. Uh-oh: hate crimes are up 8% over last year, with attacks on Jews and gays going up the most. Asians aren't safe either-- attacks on them more than doubled.

Please stop reffering to things on the newsmap like this! Jumper down sounds stupid and naive - just say somebody jumped off a building. Barricaded EDPs? C'mon!

Terms like jumper and EDP are what the police use. It's hardly objectionable to see them here.
