Dylan is Heading Off Broadway

2006_11_arts_dylanbroadway.jpgThere are some things that just don't belong on Broadway. We can all agree that Bob Dylan's music is one of those things (even if the man himself enjoyed the show). Finally the powers that be have also realized this and have pulled the plug on The Times They Are A-Changin', after only a month on stage. Wonder what's next for Twyla Tharp? Let's just hope she doesn't think of a good dance number for The Velvet Underground's "White Light/White Heat".

Some Dylan alternatives: go recreate The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan album cover, or check out the Dylan exhibit that is still open at The Morgan. No coreographed dance numbers at that one. There's also the Benefit for Music for Youth show tonight, which will include a whole bunch of bands and musicians singing the Songs of Bob Dylan. More details here.

Always thought a theatrical version of Ween's "The Mollusk" would have been a Broadway hit...still do...still working on it...secretly...with evil genius...

  • Hopefully this will discourage more of these jukebox "musicals" - Tharp and Dylan are no Gilbert and Sullivan!

And good riddance. May this be her last abomination to hit the stage.
