Slashing on the L Train

A 19 year old was slashed while riding the L train around 2-2:30AM Tuesday morning. An argument erupted between Jonathan Montalvo and another rider at Union Square on the Brooklyn-bound L. The Daily News reports that a bearded man said, "You looking at me? Why you looking at me?" in a taunting manner, and then the two got into a fight. The man cut off Montalvo's left pinkie and fled the train at the Third Avenue stop.

Montalvo was also slashed in the face and chest; it's unclear whether his finger was re-attached successfully. The police are still looking for the attacker, who was wearing a "burgundy vest and a black and green hat."

Not the first time this has happened on the L. A Saturday around 5pm, maybe 3 months ago, we were headed to Brooklyn approaching Union Sq. A bunch of high school kids started screaming "he's got a knife!" and rushed the front of the car. I didnt get a good view because all the people pushing through, but it did look like some haggard old man.

The MTA employee in the booth didn't do a goddamn thing, no phone call, nothing. Actually, he asked if the person was black or white.
Anyone else?

That sucks.
And a burgundy vest on the attacker? could it be a disgruntled MTA employee?

losing a pinkie... not the best way to end a night out on the town.

Where's Bernie Goetz when you need him?
