Pencil This In
THEATER: Mind the Gap specializes in bringing contemporary British plays to New York; their latest lark is a military/political thriller called The Cleric that explores the issue of state-sanctioned torture. It’s about an Irish-American priest who is caught by U.S. Special Forces in post-9/11 Afghanistan and accused of terrorist collaboration. Harmless, fraternity hazing type hi-jinks ensue, but all the priest wants is another priest to hear him confess sins that he claims are worse than anything he’s been accused of doing. Martin Denton assures us that not only is this an "important" play but that the “tension never flags.” - John Del Signore
7:30pm // 59E59 Theatres [59 East 59th St] // Tickets are $25
POOL PARTY: Those are two words you don't usually hear in November - but tonight Prince Language and Justin V (!!! and Out Hud) are spinning at one. So don’t forget your swim trunks. There will also be $5 vodka specials all night - nothing like a good 'ol drink n' swim.
8pm to 1am // Hotel QT [125 W 45th St] // Free
MUSIC: Half you of you are probably ready to get out and see some music now that CMJ has left town and the venues are back to "normal", the rest of you probably need a month away from sound. Our suggestion: head over to the aesthetically pleasing Union Hall for Darker My Love and Probably Vampires. Sounds a little dark and goth, but the latter plays a mixture of "60's-influenced power pop" and "barn burning blues of old". Probably Vampires is pictured at left, they don't look that scary.
8pm // Union Hall [Union at 5th in Park Slope] // $8
ELECTION NIGHT: Need a drink as you watch the returns? Good thing for "Election Night with Living Liberally", which allows you to do both.
8pm onward // Park Avenue Country Club [381 Park Ave South at 28th St] // Free
