Can someone explain why high tide on the river is a month away instead of 12 hours? and why is it so predictable on the hudson river, which although it's an estuary, is subject to increased flow from rain?

There's only so much you can do beforehand. Sometimes, to paraphrase Robert Burns, the best-laid schemes of mice and men go awry. They dredged, they inspected, they floated, but they can't pull it out of the slip just for the sake of testing and put it back for the ceremony. Anyone who watches "Mythbusters" can testify that reality has a nasty way of messing around with theory.

You would think that investigation into the removability of the actual boat itself would have been part of the pre planning to move an aircraft carrier that's been docked that long - especially for the sake of safety. Nevertheless, I wish them luck.

They screwed up the move, and so now they're going to want to turn the waterfront into an industrial site - a dockyard - for a year or two? Hell no.
