Person Hit by Train at Columbus Circle

2006_11_123.jpgA person was fatally hit by a subway train at Columbus Circle on the 1 tracks. Which means that 1, 2, and 3 train service is suspended in both directions between 72nd Street and 42nd Street/Times Square.

On Saturday, a man was fatally struck by an E train at the 34th Street station. The MTA also says that select Brooklyn-bound 2 trains are running on the 5 between 149th Street/Grand Concourse and Nevins.

My father's bipolar and gets disability for "major depression." However, he seeks treatment. There is so much help available in NYC, of all places. Suicide is selfish. To give it any glamour or pity only makes it more appealing. And to do it in a public way like during rush hour is more selfish yet.

And 'remain calm'... what sort of conspiracy theory are you babbling about and what relevance does it have to this at /all/?

  • poop

i was on one of those delayed trains stuck in the tunnel. i was pissed, too...not because i was late for work, but because i had to take a dump.

  • remain calm

you heartless fuks remind of those who heeded the advice of know nothings when the WTC towers fell.

Always had to worry about your "work". well, unfortunately that "work" killed a lot of people.

It's not all about work. Just because you're bitter does not mean everyone else needs to be.

  • bob

you have little pity for someone who would likely be suffering from serious depression and consequently be suicidal? awesome.

It's just agitating. The buses on Broadway (M104, in particular) were not stopping, even though the buses were empty. Then after I went to get on the BC, we were delayed repeatedly because of 1) a heart attack on a C train and 2) two guys beating the crap out of eachother on an A train at 59th. We were stopped on a C train at 72nd street for a good 15 minutes, and that was after multiple shorter stops in the tunnel before it.

If it was indeed a seizure victim or something that fell onto the tracks, that sucks. For both him and for the thousands of commuters that were SOL this morning. But if it was a suicide... I have little pity.

I support what Mollygizer and Eric said.

    My condolences to Ben@2.

When I was listening to the news this morning, all it said was that there was a police investigation at Columbus Circle. So now I know what happened.

What I don't get is, if the incident happened on the West Side, why were East Side trains delayed or, in the case of the 5, suspended completely?

  • Automocar

Ben@2- yeah, right. If one of my family members had just been killed, I wouldn't be reading Gothamist.

  • kristin

That article says there were residual delays on the 4,5 6 as well. Why? Were there that many people that went crosstown to catch the green line to really cause delays?? wow.

ps, #1, how selfish can you be? someone got killed by a subway yet you're complaining b/c maybe you were a little too close for comfort to someone on the subway this morning, or were 15 min late to work? Grow a heart.

  • Ben@2

If you insist on being an ASSHOLE mollygizer, move on to craigslist - they'll love you there -

That "man" who got hit at Columbus Circle was my uncle - he had a MOTHERFUCKING SEIZURE

    Thank you

  • Mollygizer

    Dear NYC.

If you insist on killing yourself, please don't do it during rush hour. On a Monday morning. Bah.

    Thanks.
