- Brilliant: a woman wearing a fake beard and mustache robbed the Commerce Bank in Park Slope on Halloween, then escaped by blending into the costumed crowds.
- Someone at the Parks Department thought it was a good idea to give "20 private schools near-exclusive use of more than 50 ballfields at Randalls Island each weekday afternoon for the next 30 years". Not surprisingly, many uptown residents are outraged.

- In Newark, A young bull escaped from a slaughterhouse-bound freight train. He was eventually captured by the cops, but the story has a happy ending: the bull will spend the rest of his life at a petting zoo.
- Carlos Beltran wins the first Gold Glove of his career. Former Mets outfielder Mike Cameron also won a Gold Glove for his play in the field.
