Cranberry Bog in the City

2006_11_arts_crans.jpg

Just like last year, the people of Ocean Spray will be turning Rockefeller Center in to one of their very own cranberry bogs. The 1,500 square foot free-standing bog will be in the Channel Garden fountains from 10am to 4pm today. Seems like an opportunity for some great shots, if nothing else.

Lack of access is a myth.

I'll probably get reamed for saying this but here goes:

A giant cranberry bog in Rockerfeller Center. A giant heap of real pumpkins, Indian corn and butternut squash as a decorative display on 34th and Park.

Cabbage- and squash-festooned planters throughout the city all year round.

Then you hear all these stories of neighborhoods not having enough access to affordable fresh produce and healthy, nutritious eating alternatives.

    Something's not right here.

They should bring in the dimwit character from their TV commercials as well and have him stand there in the middle in his waders.
