Indie Actress Adrienne Shelley Found Dead

2006_11_adrienneshelley.jpgAdrienne Shelley, the actress of seminal independent movies Trust and The Unbelievable Truth, was found dead on Wednesday in her Greenwich Village office. Her husband Andrew Ostroy found her hanging from a shower rod in the bathroom in an Abingdon Square building. The Post reports that the police are "inclined" to beileve it was suicide (no signs of a struggle or forced entry at the door) but they are "investigating sneaker prints in the bathtub that did not match Shelley's shoes." The ME's office conducted an autopsy, but has not released the results.

Queens-born Shelley lived in Tribeca with her husband and 3 year old daughter and had recently focused on writing and directing. Her agent said, "She was so psyched about [her new film Waitress]. She gathered an amazing cast, and she was really happy and excited to hear back from Sundance about it." Here is her filmography - definitely check out Trust and The Unbelievable Truth, as well as last year's Factotum.

I've often wondered why I hadn't seen Adrienne Shelley in any mainstream movies - she had such an elfin beauty and was so talented. I am very upset to hear about her death - such a vicious end to a lovely actress. The unbelievable truth!

Cute, Adorable Adrienne. I fell in love with her after Trust. I actually modeled my choice in woman after her. I wish I had an opportunity to have meet her.

It just goes to show, Just because a person has money doesn't mean there happy! The inter locking of one's mind can be a terrible place for second guessing one's emotions . Don't think I've seen one of her flix. R.I.P

I would have to presume that "lil jimmy" did not actually mean "laugh out loud," but rather tried to use the letters to form the shape of someone's mouth being opened by shock. lol kind of looks like that. I hope that's what he tried to represent.

Oh, and I don't think it's suicide. She seemed to have too much going for herself. It will be interesting to see what the police report finally shows.

lil jimmy, you're an idiot. only a loser-lurker-troll would post "lol" after hearing of a tragic death.

    ain't that the truth.

Must of been a strong shower rod, they don't make em like they used to.

Whenever someone dies you can always expect a couple of pathetic losers to stop by anonymously and deposit a few droppings. Nice.

I'm kinda ambivalent towards her. I had lots of friends who who enjoy hal hartley movies and were in some of them. Same kinda feeling I get with Joey lauren adams and rosanna arquette. sort of hipster actresses.

oh well, sad that she off'ed herself in such a way.

  • um

She was so terrific and such an inspiration. I am totally saddened by this.

  • lil jimmy

    lol

  • This is just bloody awful. My god. I, too, am a huge fan of the older Hal Hartley films. SO very sad. Poor gal.

  • woah

Oh shit! I loved Trust when it came out. She was lucky to have worked with Hal Hartley before he got really terrible (I always considered the split to be right around Amateur). Simple Men is the best (even though she's not in that).... man, that's crazy she killed herself.
