I adopted a cat (who happens to be black) five years ago, and she is very social and affectionate towards humans but not other cats. She's the center of our Halloween parties and seems to know that it's her special day (besides her birthday) :-)

A friend of mine rescued a cat from the street and he's looking for a new home for the cat (he's allergic to cats). This cat is 3 months old and happens to be all black. If you are genuinely interested in adopting him (Ninja), please contact me at email: acimeow@gmail.com. Note: only serious inquiries please.

I thought black cats were more social and affectionate than others? I always have a few strays in our backyard waiting for me to come home, then I invite them in for some food, play with them for a bit and then they go back outside. Sometimes when it's very cold they can sleep in. maybe they were someone's pet before. Our neighbor in the back feeds this guy, too.

Rickthecabbie, I am happy that you and Dizzy found each other.

And maybe people often given puppies as gifts - and soon after give them up because they are too much work?

Let me tell ya, 3 yrs ago I went to CACC in Harlem to adopt a cat right around this time, and since I always wanted a black cat, when I picked one out I started getting these questions and funny looks from the staff (different than the usual funny looks I get). They told me there is a definite increase in the interest of black cats during this time. Turns out some people abuse these black cats, even sacrifice them. They let me have her, but she turned out to be a possessed kitty(she wasn't socialized) so I had to bring her back after 2 weeks. Happy ending though since I found my true love, Dizzy, an orange tabby upon second chance. We celebrate our 3rd anniversary this Thanksgiving. They do good work at that adoption center in east Harlem.

We have a black cat, and my mom always kept him in on Halloween for fear of what the little punks in the neighborhood would do to him.

Isn't there a similar law in some states regarding adopting puppies around Christmas?

that's kind of crazy to me. i can't believe people would adopt a cat just for a prop.

That is not my cat, it's an relative's neighbor's cat who bears a striking resemblance to my cat pre-eye removal. (The cat's left eye has a brown mass in it!)

I bet Madonna can get one just by showing up and throwing some cash around. Or was that for a black baby?
