Timbnyc,
That's quite a sample size. Jason Giambi is quick to attribute much of his resurgent success to Mattingly. Unlike whizoldman Leo Mazzone (whose Braves pitching staff never really credited), all the Yankees hitters thought Mattingly was amazing. The reports that he was the first to the ballpark and last to leave and was always well prepared doesn't get you excited about the sort of manager he'll be?

Oh yeah.
I remember when the Yankees won the World Series, back in the 20th Century.

Perhaps you mean back to a World Series title, as they were there in 2003 (but lost)

"If promoted to manager in 2008, perhaps Mattingly can finally lead the Yankees to a World Series."

You mean "ANOTHER" World Series, I guess you forgot Joe Torre took the Yanks to the World Series back in 2000 and 1999 and 1998.

the manager doesn't decide grooming policy for the yankees. it's an organizational issue.
