Hey, POTLACH (heh, pot...) can the anarchist crap. This isn't Williamsboard and anarchy is so perverted by rich poser kids trying to piss of their daddies that it has completely lost any power it may have had. All this is going to do is piss off the neighbors and make those who oppose the development seem like assholes who just want an excuse to tag something.

Hi, I just moved to a new condo in Willimaburg because I hear it's the next Park Slope. Who can I talk to about:

-DESTROY PROPERTY VALUES BY ANY MEANS
-DO EVERYTHING IN YOUR POWER TO UNDERMINE THE MARKETING OF YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD.

I'm trying to meet new and interesting people to network with.

Actually, they used "Elizabeth HASSENBECK." I don't regularly watch the The View, but I'm glad she's the token young right-winger. E.H. is the perfect air-headed, football hero marrying, overly excitable spokesmodel for them. She can't argue a point without getting all uppity and talking over everyone else.
She also comes off as the most naive and unitelligent person on the show. Personally I think it's a shrewd casting move on good ole Barbara Walter's part.

Sell the house. Sell the car. Sell the kids.

The Hipster blogs continually bemoan the impending commercial development throughout Brooklyn but consistently fail to even hope of doing anything about it. We can acknowledge the tragedy of what is happening but just have not been able to articulate our resistance or come up with viable strategy for opposing development.

Those bored with apathy and ironic withdrawal can take a lesson from the Iraqi insurgency- Opposition to capital development is EASY and EFFECTIVE. Here are two cues from the little red book of tactics:

-DO EVERYTHING IN YOUR POWER TO UNDERMINE THE MARKETING OF YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD. Make them UNWELCOME. Spray paint your sentiments on their bistro.

-DESTROY PROPERTY VALUES BY ANY MEANS. Just take a shit on the street if you’re not up for noise pollution or arson. If we are going to be thrown off the farm, we might as well burn the fields.

No, These measures may not impede the march of gentrification, but they will help preserve and articulate the culture that we hold dear, or at least memorialize it with a lovely POTLACH.

If I didn't pay the Puerto Rican kids on my block to hang out in front of these condos and blare rap and smoke blunts...

I'd feel helpless.

You know, if the character on Law & Order: SVU was batshit crazy, then yes, Ms. Hasselbeck would have a legitimate gripe.

Anyone know if she was?

I'm a features reporter at The Record. Anyway, we did extensive coverage on the GWB, unsuprisingly. In case you want a Jersey perspective:

The Tappan Zee is about to fall down. Literally. Of course, they say it was only built to last 50 years.

And Elizabeth Hasselback needs to change her name to Max Power. "You don't cuddle with Max Power. You strap yourself in and feel the Gs."

Marty is a bloated windbag who, despite his cheerleading, is destroying Brooklyn. Witness:

* his support for Ratner's anti-human, anti-urban monstrosities
* his opposition to a car-free prospect park
* illegally parking his car in ... a park (why doesn't he walk? looks like he needs the exercise)
* etc....

The GWB was erected in 4 years, including the painting. It is now taking over 5 to just repaint it.

The bridge itself can be maintained by charging just $1 per vehicle. How does the PA justify the literal highway robbery?

I've always thought that the bridge and tunnel fees that the PA charges on Hudson crossings are unconstitutional as an impediment to interstate commerce. The Tappan Zee bridge was actually built at its spot just to be away from the PA jurisdiction and its fare is a lot less than $6.

There is a high-rise going up next door to where I live called "Bohemian Embassy" (Maggie Atwood anybody?) It features a "bohemian" girl wearing fishnets and a beret with the words "BE SCENE, BE HERE"

To which the local artists replied "OBSCENE, BEWARE!"
