I think the committee should look at every building that comes before on an individual basis. Sure the building will be radically different from the surrounding neighborhood, but if it's beautiful in it's own right and will add to the neighborhood they should allow it. It's not like they are trying to replace a grand structure like Penn Station with a monstrosity. Preservation shouldn't freeze a neighborhood in the past. It should preserve it's character and allow for room for appropriate growth and evolution. Sure it's important to remember your past, but you shouldn't let it strangle your future. This is New York after all. Creativiity shouldn't be stifled here.
