Oops, Cop Shot His Gun

2006_10_bullet.jpgThe police say a police sergeant accidentally fired his gun at a Sunday party in an Upper East Side housing complex. Fifteen year old Luke Saintel had been shot in the leg by what police now say are "spent fragments" of a bullet that hit the floor. The police had arrived after someone complained about 60 people "spilling out" of an apartment, according to the NY Times:

...[A] preliminary analysis of the shooting, including an account by the sergeant’s supervisor, who was standing directly behind him during the encounter, found that the sergeant followed Mr. Saintel down a darkened hallway and drew his Glock service pistol — keeping it at his side with the barrel facing downward — only after he saw Mr. Saintel reach into his waistband as if about to draw a weapon, the police said.

The sergeant was following Mr. Saintel and another person as they disappeared around a corner inside the apartment and went into a living room filled with about 50 young people who were gathered there for a party, the police said. Someone then bumped into the sergeant and his gun went off, discharging one bullet, the police said. It was unclear whether the officer was jostled intentionally or not.

The police also say that Saintel told them he had smoked marijuana at the party (the police could smell it in the room), which his mother denies. A 9mm gun was found in the apartment, but one of the siblings who lived in the apartment said it was from two other residents who stopped by the party.

Saintel is in good condition and now has his own lawyer reviewing the incident. The Manhattan DA's office is also investigating. And two siblings who live in the apartment, Juanita and Raymond Young, were arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and obtaining alcohol for minors.

Exceedingly poor firearms training for the NYPD. One never puts finger on trigger until aiming at someone is willing to shoot at. That jostling excuse just means he was mishandling his weapon. A good contrast to examine is guns in movies vs. guns in the news. Watch any action movie and characters are constantly walking around with fingers crooked (that's KROOK-d and not crooke-ED) and within the trigger guard. Watch CNN or any coverage of Iraq or Afghanistan and you'll notice all soldiers keep their index fingers horizontal to the barrel of the gun and outside of the trigger guard until they're shooting.

You don't need to watch CNN to see that. If you've ever seen a Hercules or Nexus cop in this city you'd see their index finger is straight along the barrel.

This is an isolated incident. It's not like we hear of this problem 38,000 times a day. The NYPD has one of the best training facilities in the world, you cannot possibly judge them by this one or even other incidents. It's on an individual basis, some cops are better than others just like some writers or designers are better than others. Just because one architect with a degree from RISD does a piss poor job on a building design does not mean RISD has a bad architecture program.

There's plenty of instances where rookie nypd cops had "accidents". usually from showing off their guns or cleaning them.
this was bad gun handling, period and nothing else.
The gun does not go off by "bumping". Something was inside the trigger guard, most likely, his finger.
that is all. best training facility my ass.
and edEx is still a big baby.

i agree with dave h. and edex...

you're quick draw, you're a damned idiot. get your facts straight before spewing your lack-of-intelligence diatribes.

which part of my post was incorrect?
the part where a gun only goes off when one has their finger on the trigger? isn't that what big baby and the other guy posted?
the part where I posted this was bad gun handling?
before you post, you should get your hand off your cock.

It's clear by your post you nothing about gun handling, tactics and police/military strategy... you're a bumbling idiot that gets off on knocking other people who have a higher intelligence than you do. you also have absolutely no respect for opinion. You always need to be right and in this casem like many others, you're wrong.

60 kids packed into a home. they're all underage, drinking and smoking pot. Other than your own drunken foolery, when have you been a cop or on the front line in a situation like that? or even at a party that is packed; spilling your drink, stumbling on feet in a dark room or hallway...

you read comic books and the village voice. You sit at home alone wondering why people do not repsect you, why? this is why? you undermine anyone who does not think your way... it's a pathetic way to live your life.

before YOU post think to yourself why you're alone in life... think real hard, there's only one answer, YOU ARE in fact the loser jerking his gerkin all day in front of the computer... bwahahahahah

Thank you for proving my point,
anyone who writes "bwahahahahah" in their response is a douchebag. What are you? a Baby or something?

user-pic

the trap worked:
"bwahahahahah" i baited into your basic, 3 year old mentality:
*What are you? a Baby or something?*

Thank you. My point has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt. You lose.

"you cannot possibly judge them by this one or even other incidents."

Ummm...yeah I can. And I will as long as they are proving that they don't use protocol in which they were trained with their supervisor standing right behind them...and shooting unarmed men or women in my city. Thank you.

Just because one architect with a degree from RISD does a piss poor job on a building design does not mean RISD has a bad architecture program.

I agree with that if the architect who failed to
do his job is fired.

BL- get a life bro!

PS- this is going to continue unless this guy is fired.

BL, you're one of them "mall ninjas" aren't ya?
you didn't prove crap except you're a loser and a baby.
BL= Big Loser

*you didn't prove crap except you're a loser and a baby.*

you're the only one here with the dirty diaper, buddy. the only.

*I agree with that if the architect who failed to
do his job is fired.*

I think the parents of this child should be fired, taken into police custody and jailed for serving minors and harboring an illegal firemarm in their house.

BL= stands for "Big Loser"
always will. You like them diapers, don't you? you sick perv.

bwwhaahhahahah!!! lucky for me i have your IP address. see you on the street.

the IP street? It's not that kind of address.

What the hell is going on in this thread? There is too mucho macho posturing over the correct way to handle a gun and too much talk of jerking off.
Well, I bet my gun is bigger than all of yours are!

I think he/she means look over your shoulder when you walk... you have a fan... but hey that's what you get for being so insecure. have fun watching your 6.

Although yeah, this thread did degenerate pretty quickly, for the record, my original post wasn't supposed to be "mucho macho posturing." I was trying to point out that a departmental explanation that a cop was jostled and his gun went off is not a legitimate excuse and that the responsibility lies with the cop who was handling his weapon unsafely.

people have their IP addresses on their foreheads? Still unclear how he plans on tracking them down.

I love it. I.P. Freely is one of my favourite person in the whole wide world.
Second only to Richard Hurtz. or, Buster Hyman.
Don't need to watch my six, I have eyes everywhere.
ten four, good buddy.

Who has more power and influence?
Who has been trained to 'protect and serve'?

A cop or a parent.
A cop.

Good. So:
Fine the parents.

Fire the cop.

wait a minute. please tell me that the mentioned sibling isn't THE Juanita Young
